I see there's another thread with a similar title, but i've got a different problem from that guy.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice about this.

I've got a Windows 98 and Windows 2000 dual boot system (Duron 650MHz, 320M RAM, if it matters). I have a Teac CD-ROM and a few days ago i got an LG CD burner. I don't know its exact model, because i don't have the computer at hand right now, but i really hope that whatever i'm doing wrong is something trivially stupid enough that it won't depend on that.

The problem is that both operating systems only recognize the burner as a CD-ROM device, in the device list or pretty much anywhere else. Needless to say, Nero doesn't see it as a burner either. It worked fine on another computer, though.

Do you have any idea why that could be or what i could do to fix this?

Is this an internal CD-Writer? Did you install it? If so what did you set the "jumper" setting too?

Hey, thanks for responding.

I've resolved the issue in the meantime - it was an error on my part, one so stupid i'm kind of embarassed to explain it. (And it's not likely anyone else will repeat it anyway.)

I probably should have posted here to say the problem was solved, but i'd gotten no replies for six weeks and just assumed nobody would really read my question anymore.

Thanks again for your willingness to help!

Never say that a mistake you made on a PC is stupid as you will always learn from your mistakes so you will know better the next time.

Glad to hear the issues is solved!

What was your solution??? Even though it may seem stupid, there are some that may benefit. I have the LG GCE-8400B installed on an older pentium 3 system running Windows 98 and the drive is not being recognized as a CD-RW burner. I've looked high and low for drivers, firmware (that have been found and updated), solutions from Microsoft's website, all kinds of forums, articles and still, I could not find anything. There should be no other reson for this drive to stay as CD-ROM. If anyone else is able to help, please do so!!!
