Hi there, I just thought I'd consult some of you guys here before attempting anything..

Well it all started when my mom asked me to burn some CDs for her..I started burning the 1st disc and took a bath. When I came back it said "Burn completed". Worked fine. I then continued with the second CD, it burned till 3% then failed. Tried again, same thing happened. So I decided to skip that disc and go on to the last one, and suddenly I got this error "please insert medium CD/CD-RW" I tried inserting a few different empty CDs but it didn't work!

I thought it was Nero's fault so I decided to re-install, but figured it wasn't the problem. I tried putting different discs, Audio CD, data CD into the burner but it wouldn't even read now! The CD-ROm works fine, just the burner. It just died suddenly, right after completing the first disc!

Any ideas? I hope it's not officially dead, it's only 4 months old! Oh, it's a Liteon SOHR-5238S. Can it be the driver's problem? Cause under Device Manager it says the device is working properly...so I don't understand why it isn't reading any CDs.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

First thing to do, if you can, if remove the IDE cable from the drive so you only have power going to the device - do this when powered off. Once the IDE cable is removed boot the PC up, place a disc in the drive - say a music disc - now what happens with the LED's on the drive?

Doing the above should help get to the source of the issue faster.
