For some reason the disk size in the corner says 4.38Gig

And Im trying to burn 4.2 Gig of Data using a new Samsung dual layer drive. Im using +r 4.7Gig disks, but everytime after it prepares the files (which takes forever), it fails, telling me that the disk size isnt large enough!??!

does anyone have any ideas? Im just burning data.

its also telling me that the size of the disk is below 4.5 in Nero, shouldnt it be saying 4.7?

Maybe your drive is too new for the software to recognize it right? I thought Pinnacle was pretty old?

Nero is correct in it's size statement. You can only fit about 4.4gb on to a DVD. The +R type is slightly less than the -R types.

If it's only data you're writing I would have thought Nero was the better bet.

What's possibly happening is that the raw data size is 4.2gb (ie adding all the bytes) but clustering is not taken into account, neither would folder sizes.

If on a harddrive you have a cluster size of 512bytes then a file of 20 bytes would actually use 512bytes, ie the full cluster. I'm not sure what happens here regarding DVD media but the same is probably true.

Hope that helps ( & that I've got my facts right)
