View Full Version : Problems with digital playback.

I've recently installed a second hand Iomega Zip drive to my computer an event that changed the drive letters on my DVD & CD drive and also necessitated the unplugging of both drives.

Ever since then when I try to play CDs I get the following message:

"Windows media Player encountered an error when reading the CD-rom in digital Mode." It also suggest that I reset the machine to analog mode to get a read out.

When I do this all I get is a 'hissing' sound.

Similarly when I try to play DVDs I do not get all the sound. I think that the digital component is being dropped out.

Both drives are set to use the digital output and as far as I can tell all cables are in place and firmly set up.

Has anyone had similar problems and can they suggest a solution?

It seems like it shouldn't have problems at all if it knows the drive is there regardless of the drive-letter change. The "digital out" would still go through the IDE cable. Unless you have to double-check the settings in Windows Media Player itself under "Properties" (although it seems like it should take whatever the system settings are regardless..)

Sorry, but I know that won't help much.

The "analog out" would only work if you have that connection between the drive and the soundcard's "CD In" or "AUX In" connector using that separate red/white/black length of wire that no one uses anymore.

Still the information was useful, I removed and then replaced the IDE cables and also reset the properties to allow Digital playback. This time when I ran the cd through the DVD player I got the same message but I also got a link offering additional information. All this said was that it had automaticaly switched to Analog and gave the following error/Condition codes:

Error ID = 0xC00D11F8, Condition ID = 0x00000000

Anyone have any idea what this means.

I was in luck there, I found some Analog connector cables in my 'junk' cable box and fitted them, this has at least restored the sound playback on the CD I have not yet tried the DVD to see if I am still missing part of the sound.
