Hi all. I've got a recommendation...sorry it's related to computer equipment not watches or rice cookers! Yesterday I bought a BenQ DW1625 LightScribe DVD writer. I spent about eight hours experimenting with this drive. This thing kicks a$$! It was very cheap ( $99.00 CDN ), reads and writes on any type of disk...including dual layers. It's fast and it came with a lot of good software but the best part is the lightscribe abilities. I cannot believe I've gone this long without lightscribe. I used to have to label and/or write on disks like a common criminal! The labels that this drive burned onto my disks were professional quality. The only drawback is that it doesn't print in colour...but it is still very impressive. If anyone's thinking of getting a lightscribe burner, I highly recommend this one! :)

I think HP were the inventors of this technology.

How long does it take?

I know it would depend on how intricate the label was, but an approximation.

(My rice cooker can cook 2 cups in 6 mins)

The highest quality burn takes a little over twenty minutes. The lowest quality burn takes six minutes and the mid-quality burn takes ten minutes. The results are truly professional quality. I've seen some professional disks that didn't look as good as this. Of course the majority of professional disks with complicated graphics do look better but bear in mind that the manufacturers have expensive professional grade equipment. For the price of this drive and the price of media for it ( I'm paying 87 cents per CD and $2.00 per DVD ) I'm very pleased with the drive and the results I have been getting.

Sounds OK.

What I would like to see is the Lightscribe feature working independently and at the same time as burning the CD/DVD.

In other words, not having to wait or turn it over.
