I'm trying to help a friend thru msn messenger remote assistance. I can send a request and it comes back declined even though he didn't decline it. When he tries sending me a request, i never get it and it tells him that he needs to update to the latest messenger which he got (Version 7.5 Built 7.5.0311). Any inputs are greatly appreciated.

I have full access granted for msnmessenger on my end. his computer didn't have a firewall. we couldn't even find the windows firewall on his system. he purchased it about 6 months ago.

what operating system is your friend running ? if its windows Xp
go to Start > All programs > Accessories > system tools > security centre
check the fire wall setting in there
also what Virus protection is he using, some have a built in firewall

Hmm i dont use the home version, so have never seen it, however, I would think it should still have the security centre available ? can you do a search for it in windows help ?
what norton does he have and has it ben installed ? even prior to the sys restore ?

If the windows firewall is installed and working, this may be the problem ? there seems to be something else wrong though really if he is missing the security centre..

Security centre will be installed with SP2, as will the firewall.

Not correct. XP already includes a built-in firewall without any Service Packs.
SP2 installs the Security Center, and upgrades and enables the firewall.
