Hello,
1) My cd rom does not pop up the selection menu when a cd is inserted in it.I have gone to properties and enabled AUTOPLAY...but in vain.Even when i right click on the CD_ROM it does not show the auto play option.
2)My system is a bit slow now a days.....when it was new for a few months it was fast and good.So to make it fast i decreased some processes i thought were useless by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL.Coul somebody give me a permanent solution to this.Like i dont want so many unnecessary programs to start at the system startup.
3)I installed an anti spyware and sweeped my comp with it.It showed a few spywares and i deleted them. From the next system startup i get an error C:\~windows\~system32\~SOPROC.exe missing. This may not be correct path but the SOPROC.exe is missing what do i do?

Please help me.....!

Description:
soproc.exe is an advertising program by SoftwareOnline. This process monitors your browsing habits and distributes the data back to the author's servers for analysis. This also prompts advertising popups. This program is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

The file is still being called to start even though you have removed it, the launcher will either be in the registry or the sys config.

Go to Start > run

type in msconfig

have a look under the start up tab, see whats being launched.

next if your comfy wiv going into the system registry start > run

type in regedit, at the top under edit, click Find

You need to do a search for soproc, if you find it delete it.

back the reg up before you go looking...

Go to the Microsoft site & search for PowerToys. The most useful one is TweakUI which gives you a very handy way of adjusting for autoplay & many other nice things. It's a very useful little tool.

Have a read of this first... Auto Insert Notification (http://www.acoustica.com/mp3-cd-burner/support/ain.htm)

If that doesn't sort it have a look here, Always back up the registry before doing anything in there though.

Manual registry adjust (http://help.acoustica.com/mp3-cd-burner/2kain.htm)

Clearly yours, as it wont work, will most likely be set to 0 (zero) already so set it to 1 (one)

Well in the registry its already set to 1.But it does not display the autoplay option.
Secondly
i dont understand this
"go into the Preferences from the File menu. Uncheck "Auto Insert Notification". You will have to restart your computer. When the computer restarts, it may ask to re-enable AIN. Just click No. You can always re-enable it later.

Go to Preferences from the file menu????which file menu? i clicked on the drive and then went to file there is no such option as "Preferences".

As the website states that if this autorun is not enabled cd burning will fail.
Thats what is happening to me, i have wasted many cds trying to burn them. But the file i burn into them does not open.
Please help

hmmm do you have some of Roxio's software on your PC then ? if so what do you have, this has been well documented in the past to have conflicts causing the problems you describe.

the article is talking about a specific program "Luckily, it is easy to turn it off with MP3 CD Burner. this is why you can't follow that route

Do it the easy way and download the AUTOPLAY REPAIR WIZARD (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=C680A7B6-E8FA-45C4-A171-1B389CFACDAD&displaylang=en).

If you don't have a genuine copy of Windows to enable the download, then I can't help with that.

If that fails, then you will need to look elsewhere to fix the problem.

Well, The auto fix has done the trick thanx a lot mate. Will my burns still i waste??? i mean as the website said that if this is unabled then some of the burns may not work well?

Read as it says
AIN is one of the most common reasons for burn failures. Here's why.
...............
.........
So what if it launches a program? Actually, it matters. CD recorders need a constant non-interrupted stream of data to burn on the blank CD. If that stream is interrupted, the burn fails and you end up with an unusable CD. When a program launches it steals precious computing power and the burn is interrupted enough to cause a failure.

As it says that if AIN is not enabled burn could fail.I just wanted to confirm that my burns would not fail.

Earlier when my burns used to fail, i used to write them at a slower speed (40X).My maximum is 48X will i be able to write at this speed again.

Also, i still have a slight doubt...after i used the AUTO FIX program. The contents of the cd are displayed or the cd starts playing on its own (Like game cds etc.).But i remember that when my comp was new it used to pop up a box which used to ask select the kind of prog u want this cd to run with.
For example when i used to put in a music cd.It used to ask me wether i want it to play with Winamp or Windows Media Player or Real player or NO ACTION.
But now it automatically starts with Media Player.

The quote about a burn failing because it needs a stream of information is misleading.

If you have DMA enabled, and you have burnproof, it shouldn't make any difference as the burner adjusts to accommodate any fluctuations.

I don't know if your burns will fail. If you are worried, then do a simulation burn.

I have it AIN on mine, and always have and have never had a problem.

You can test your burner with CD Speed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com/), but I think it's easier doing a simulation burn.

Thank GOD.You spoke about the DMA.I had completely forgotten about it.Every time I burn a disk it(NERO) asks me to enable DMA.But i just dont understand how to enable DMA.It(NERO) give an option saying enale DMA? YES/NO.I have ticked YES several times. But it still asks me to enable DMA.Could you please help me enable DMA???

DMA requires the correct motherboard/chipset drivers to operate, and XP will enable PIO mode by default if it encounters a number of errors.

Rather than rattling on, I first suggest you make sure you have the latest Windows Service Packs and critical patches installed, then update your motherboard/chipset drivers.

If you don't know what your hardware is, then use EVEREST HOME EDITION (http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en) which will tell you what your hardware is and supply links for drivers.

Do you want me to enable Auto Updates in my comp?Currently it is unabled, I had unabled it because it was taking away a lot of space. And I thought that all these new things that are getting installed slowed down my comp?Anyway i have downloaded the EVEREST HOME EDITION.What do you want me to do next?

Insomniac

You don't have to enable auto updates if you don't like it, but just visit Windows Update (And do so regularly) and install any Service Packs and critical patches.

As far as Everest is concerned, install and start it up, and then go to your motherboard details.

It should tell you the manufacturer and model number, and provide a link which you can click for drivers.

If you are unsure, then attach an Everest log here and I or someone else will look at it for you.

I'm going out so if I don't immediately reply, then don't panic.

your motherboard details are HERE (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00300046)

And this will take you to the driver download page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?dlc=en&lc=en&product=449732&lang=en&cc=us&os=228) the compact pressario looks to have the same board in as yours, if you follow the links from the other sites for the drivers for your board, you end up at the link above

Hey My comp is not the one specified.Mine is Compaq SR1435IL.Coul you please give me the link to download the drivers for it.I tried , i typed in my comp (SR1435IL).It showed some drivers but i dont know which are the drivers i need to install?

Above all, may i know why am i downloading these drivers? How am I gonna benifit from these? Will they increase the speed of my comp or wht.i guess its for DMA.Right?

Insomniac
Nov 17, 2005, 05:28 PM
Your drivers are HERE (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&lang=en&cc=us&os=228&product=468169&dlc=en&softwareitem=pv-29693-1).

Just make sure your operating system is listed and everything matches before you start.

To answer your question why you need these, everyone needs to update their motherboard drivers, especially if they have never done it.

The drivers supplied on CD's with hardware are generally older than 6 months or more, and Windows only supplies generic drivers which aren't optimised.

Whether or not it fixes the DMA issue, it's still a good idea to do.
