I'm running Windows Media Player 10.00 . I've tried to see if there's any update to it but it tells me i'm running the latest version and no updates are available. Now everytime i try opening a file with wma extension, i get this message.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

I've tried re-installing it again but same result. any ideas out there? anything is greatly appreciated

The file may be encoded with a codec that you do not have.

Do not needlessly install codec packs as this can cause problems.

Use something like GSpot, AVI Codec or Video Inspector, which will scan the file in question, then tell you if you have the required codec, and if not supply links to download it.
