well I'm getting this message for every media I insert..
dvd-r, original games, audio and even for the dvd-lens-cleaner (what a waste). My Xbox worked nearly for 3 years (lpc-modchip)..

What is the best way to fix the problem ? Is it fixable anyway ? Would you recommend to buy and install a pc-dvd-rom ?

Bud, I think your Laser is SHOT! Time for a New drive..
Check Ebay for Philips or Samsung Drives..
Likely Philips B/c Samsungs are arm and a Leg..
