My friend has just been given a 2-3 year old computer with a DVD burner in it. It is a NEC machine and the system hardware config says this is a: NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD

I have searched for information on this burner but to no avail and my friend didn't receive a manual. I would assume that since it doesn't have the -R as part of the descriptive initials that it is in fact, a +R only. Can someone confirm that?

It does indeed seem to be a +R writer only.

However, it can be flashed to a ND2500 which does both +R & -R.

Thank you,

Your information was a surprise. I didn't know you could turn a +R burner to a -R. My friend will be very happy that she doesn't have to use +R discs and better yet, she won't have to buy a new burner.

Thanks again!

Please, pay attention at the firmware update! Use an UPS against electrical breakdown, use the proper upgrade software (application and new firmware itself) and good luck!
