How well does it play on the PC, before you burned it (playing the VOB files in PowerDVD etc or VLC) & directly from the DVD.

Some possible causes are:-

. Badly burned DVD, generally caused by poor quality media.
. Bad encoding. It's a long film so the video bit rate on the DVD is relative low. A good encoder will get over this problem.
. Change of frame rate. If originally 23.96 in the avi file & converted to NTSC move (29.97) then unless the pulldown is well done then jerky movement is likely.
. Changed from PAL to NTSC or vice versa.

 hi TIMC well thank you so much for your answer, heres what i have found out mate,
once i have downloaded the file it plays fine through the computer and as i have said before once on dvd its rubbish jerky movements, i gather you know a bit mate so in your view what is a good encoder (free one) as for the frame rate i use a programe called GSPOT which just checks the file and gives you info about it.
it says its a AVI file, codec xvid, the frame rate is 23.96. now you say about pulldown (sorry mate dont understand) if i have to change the frame rate or something how do i do this because whenever i d/loaded a movie i just encode it and put it on disk i have not come across a progam which allows me to change the settings. so there you have it mate, if you can get back to me today il be very grateful, i hope i have helped a bit and look forward to your reply thanks so much again TIMC. Hi, when you are burning make sure you turn off all running programs- screen saver and firewalls ect. This may not be the answer but when I first started burning all my films skipped because the running programs interupted the burn....now 70 films later no probs, as I say it may not be the answer as some people never need to do this but it is worth a try. Good luck.

I always use Winavi to convert to dvd with usually no probs, its not free but the best i have used.

It may be that the avi file you have is faulty even though it plays on the comp ok.

One thing you could try if you can is to copy the avi file on to a dvd-rw and try converting it to dvd on someone elses comp, if outcome is the same, it has to be the avi file, i have had the odd one like this, cure is to get another copy.
