a guy is trying to tell me that DVD hire stores in australia are getting machines that can tell if a hire dvd has been copied
is that possible, is there such technology
and why would they bother
just interested. i dont do DVD's myself :hdspin: :hdspin:

That is not possible, at least at the moment!!
There is no physical contact between the disc and the device that reads it.
Whether it is played back or copied it is accessed by a laser and there is no way to differentiate between the two.
No physical traces reside on a disc that has been read by a laser that could be used to determine this.
This rumor has been in effect for several months now.
Not sure where it originated.

The dvd can be read in a standard dvd-rom, and there`s no way they can tell if it was just played, or ripped.
