Hi - hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I am trying to copy/duplicate a DVD-r that I burnt originally on my Panasonic DVD recorder.

I dont believe there is any copy protection to worry about - Im not trying to copy new movies, etc - its just some bits & pieces recorded from TV.

I have a PC with a DVD drive and a seperate DVD recorder - and had hoped I could duplicate it using the software that came with it - "Hotburn Pro" I think - its an Iomega external drive.

The system couldnt seem to recognise the disk.

I downloaded an trial version of DVD decoder software - at which point the PC could play the DVD, but still not copy it.

Am I missing anything - should it be that difficult to copy a home made DVD-r with just TV programs on it ?.

It shouldn't be that difficult. It may be a media issue. If after installing the new prog, you could view the DVD, you should be able to copy it. Are you trying to do a straight copy ( from DVD to DVD )? If so, you might want to try this...if the new prog will read the DVD, open the DVD...don't play it, just open it, select all the files, right click " copy ", create a new folder, " paste " into the new folder, start your DVD creation prog, dump the pasted files into your new creation and then burn. This is the best solution that I can think of. Good luck.

had the same problem, I think its the menu system the standalone recorder
uses. I got round it buy using TMPGenc 3 express copying each episode to
mpeg then converting the episodes I wanted back to dvd. Sure there must be
an easier way but this worked for me

Trying to get past this problem, I updated the Hotburn pro software - it still fails to copy the disk successfully - but at least now tells me why.

It now informs me that the disk is a "UDF formatted" DVD - which is not compatible with the software.

I dont know if this means anything to anyone ?.

whatever!
