I have faced a problem today. After installing some new fans and some new IDE cables, I attached the new data cables to the cd-rw and everything was ok. Suddenly I found that the CD-RW drive is making weird noises, I have shut down the computer right away, rechecked everything. But, this time the CD-RW drive wasn't recognized and gave an orange light, what do I do?, Is it tome to go and buy a new one?

Orange light can mean different things with different manufacturers.

It could be corrupted firmware, or loose cable etc.

Although in your case, it sounds like it's dead.

Sony make a Drive Check Utility (http://sony.storagesupport.com/legalagreement.zulu?dlid=cdrw/downloads/DriveCheck.zip".) that's worth a try.
