My friends CD-ROM started not ejecting (only if you go to my computer and click on the eject button will it work) and if you press the button it will not go in, if you push it in two or three times it will finally make contact and he can use it.

My question
He wants me to put in a new one for him which I no how to do just want to make sure I get one that will do every thing he wants.

He plays music, he writes to the cdrw alot, writes pics and data, he might play a dvd but does not copy any dvds.

I think this is right he told me on the phone, this is what he has
HL-DT-ST-DVD RAM GFA-40400V AT THE END IT IS A D OR A V NOT SURE.

He has a video camera he likes to plug into the computer and download movies of the family and put them on cd but the cd-rom expressed above does do that.

I have a Liteon Smart-Burn, Smart-X Mt. Tainier Support Ultra-Speed CD-RW 52X32X52X AND IT SAYS

CD-Rewriter with ATAPI/E-IDE-interface
52x writing, 32x rewriting, 52x reading
Recording Capacity 650/550 MB for CD-R discs, 650 MB for CD-RW discs
Recording Format Orange Book Part 2/3, Track at Once, Disc at Once Fixed Packet, Variable Packer
Supported Media, CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-Extra, CDROM XA, Photo CD, CD-I, CD-R, CD-RW

thats on the back of the box--for Disc Format on the side of the box it has all those plus it says Video CD

Can someone help me? can you confirm that this will do what his did?

It will burn and play CD's, but won't do DVD's.
