Help,
I have just bought a laptop with windows vista home premium, but some of my programs don't work with it. Is it possible to install a seconf operating system (xp) and if so how do i do it?

you Can have a duel boot of XP...

You would need the disk for vista (OEM or other) to go in the WINRE (by booting to the DVD than going to repair computer than next), at this point you would need to open Command Promp't than type in diskpart. once you have disikpart type in list volumes (this will display every volume on computer including the vista). once you find vista volume type in select volume (volume #). now type in "shrink querymax" (what this will tell you is how much you can shrink the volume). now to shrink volume type in shirnk desired=(amount in MB). When your done shrinking the volue list the volumes once more to see if you new volume is their.

At this point you can install XP on other volume (XP may require an install over vista Partion and if so you the vista disk with step provided and install vista on new volume) but you may still need vista disk just in case any boot sector was damaged. if your unsure how to do this i would suggest calling microsoft for support or taking to a local shop.

I would suggest try vista ultimate because the compatbily with programs is very high. By the way what kind programs are you having issues with?

best of luck you jrwright

i went to the pcdj site and could not find any information on a vista update... try contacting them to see first if they plan putting out a update. also try running the program in compatiblity mode (Win XP SP 2 and run as adminstrtor) some things to try hopefully it turns out well

That is probably the only good thing I've heard about windows Vista...able to partition without formatting the entire drive.

Kyoshiro everyone has their own opion... but you could have expressed it bit sonner? you can stay in the past or accept that this is the new industry standard. let me guesse the same people trashing vista do upgrades or use old software? so may i ask what was the point of postin to rebal against the POWER? was it just because you had nothing better to do? i truly do not know why someone would comment on an old topic just to trash it. if you had a question i would anwser it. so if you have a new question about how to use diskpart i will be more than happy to help. but if it weas just for a comment klike this their is newer topics that you could of said vista sucks and go to XP, 4.0, MAC, or even linex.

Hi yes it's a possible first time you format your system then first time you will install XP OS and make 2 or more drive choose a first drive and install XP after install XP you will install Vista in second drive. and do you work in your system so you will choose any one.

Thanks!!!!!
