Hy everybody, I am quite a newbie in hardware but I have a big problem and want to try to resolve it with a little help from friends of the WWW. I have a DVD RW Optiarc AD7170A and it worked just fine. But I wanted to burn an Image file and installed MagicISO. I burned the CD and uninstalled MagicISO after this. I use Nero 7 Essentials for burning and since it does not support image burning I used the MagicIso. Now Nero won't recognize the drive anymore, when I enter a blank CD or DVD in the drive it automatically ejects immediately and in addition I can not access the CD or DVD via Explorer. I checked the Device Manager and the drive is listed in there and should be working properly. Please help!

Doesn't Nero 7 Essentials come with Nero Burning Rom? If so, then it can burn images.

Anyway, try uninstalling the drive in Device Manager, then reboot and Windows will reinstall it.

If that fails, completely uninstall all burning and authoring software (including MagicIso).

For Nero, you need to go to their site and download the Nero Clean Tool to completely remove it.

Then install Nero. BTW, does Essentials have the Nero Info Tool you can use?

Hy Insomniac, I haven't tried to uninstall and reinstall, I am going to do this today when I come home. As for Essentials, it seems I have a stripped down version ( received with a TEAC Burning Unit ) which does not include the Nero ROM. It does have Info Tools but Nero sees the device but will not scan or test the drive, gives me a message somehow like the device is not ready. Thanks again man.

Hy, I have tried everything you suggested, unistalled reinstalled the drive and it still does not work. I removed all burning software, no success. What should I do now, is the only way to solve this problem to crash the system. I certainly hope not! Thanks a lot again Insomniac!

If it's XP, and if you're comfortable working in the Registry, then you can try the following edit. (backup the key first beforehand)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/

Just follow the instructions, it's not too difficult.

When you reboot, Windows will recreate the entries that were deleted. (in case they're corrupt)

Not sure if that will help, but you're fast running out of options, and this sort of problem can be difficult to fix without formatting.

Hy Insomniac, sorry for not replying for such a long time. I tried everything, nothing worked. Well, I changed the Burner and now everything's fine. Thanks a lot for your help!
