Hi!!

I recently purchased a Pioneer 112D burner and here is my problem i am able to read dvd and burn them, i am able to read cd but cannot burn them!!!

When i put a blank cd in the drive the light of my dvd burner stay's on for 1-2 minutes and then nothing.

I tried 2 thing :

1- Took my dvd burner plug it in a pc i have at the office with windows XP also to see if it works. Installed my copy of nero ( the same that i used at home).... Tadam it does work, with the same cd-r i used at home.So i taught it might be a software issue...

2- I FORMATED my pc..... didn't install any burning software, same problem as before, blank cd-r will not be recognized by my burner..... ( I use windows intergrated burning to test)

So now i don't know what to do!!!!!!

That's pretty strange, not to mention disheartening.

I would check the Bios and make sure the drive is detected and displayed correctly, format and install Windows, then install the latest motherboard/chipset drivers.

Once that's done, check Device Manager and My Computer, and make sure the drive is displayed correctly. (uninstalling the drive from Device Manager and rebooting can sometimes help)

The less you have installed, the less chance of problems, so keep it simple.

PS I would have suspected a faulty drive, but it would be very unlikely that it's an intermittent fault that decides to display only on 1 PC!

I also wouldn't use the burning feature in Windows, as it's only very basic, and can be problematic.

Even though you want to keep installations to a minimum, installing 1 decent burning program, like Nero for example, shouldn't cause problems, and it has the Info Tool etc which is handy for troubleshooting.
