Hi, my new Plextor PX-755sa DVD burner only seems to burn in PIO mode. This is an SATA drive. Nothing says it is running in PIO mode, but it takes about 26 minutes to burn a 4.7gb DVD+R disc at 16x speed (16x compatible media used)! This is roughly the speed that my old IDE DVD-R drive would run if it was in PIO mode. It should only be taking 4-5 minutes to burn a 4.7gb DVD+R disc at 16x! I have made sure that all my controller drivers are up to date and made sure that the BIOs settings were all correct, but still it will not burn at full speed. I used Plextools to test the speed and it was test burning at about 2x-4x. I've heard that the PX-755sa is not compatible with all motherboards, but mine is not one of the listed MBs on Plextor's website...

My system:
Abit IN9-32x Max motherboard (Nvidia nforce 590/570/550 Serial ATA Controller & Silicon Image SiI 3132 Satalink Controller).
2GB DDR2 ram
500GB WD SATA II hard drive.
Windows XP SP2

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if I can offer any help. A lot of SATA optical drives currently have problems.

Anyway, have you tried another brand of media as the drive could be downgrading the speed? (not sure if there is a setting for your software to not change the speed?)

Also, try other burning software to see if you can isolate the cause, and as a last resort, see if Plextor provide a firmware update that addresses this. (Don't flash for the sake of it)
