Ok so yeah topic says it all my CD-ROM will open and close but when a disk is in it doesnt read the disk. Well sometimes it reads the disk for about 2 mins then just stops working. I have a Aopen somethign or other not really sure the model number is CRW5232L-18. Please help this is really annoying because i had to uninstall a game to fix a problem with the game and now i cant reinstall it.

What's the operating system etc?

1. (Excuse me Insomniac you do know more than me but I think I just had this same problem)

2. A few months ago my computer's cd-rom drive failed so I bought a new one from the net. An Aopen, and I had exactly the same symptoms as you. It would dissapear from My Computer and reappear. I took it out and reinstalled it many times. Then I forced my system to recognize it through the hardware profile and the whole system crashed and would not let me in.

Not to blabber on. All I had to do was get a new cd-rom drive. I now use an Optiarc my system and cd drive work great. It turned out that Aopen had to use something called real mode drivers which are much different than the standard ones we use now. My advice to you is not to mess with the thing and if it is new return it and get a refund because in my experience Aopen sucks.
