After acquiring a known virus, my cd-dvd drive for my Toshiba Satellite P105-9337 failed to appear in My Computer. It was still in the BIOS and in the device manager it gave me an error 19 and 41. I googled it and deleted the registry lowerclass and upperclass filters like I've been told, but it still hasn't fixed the problem. I'm still getting the same two errors about the hardware not being found. I was wondering, is there anywhere else to go from here? Deleting the registry files seems to have worked for everyone else but I'm at a loss here... :bawling:

Deleting the Upper and Lower Filters usually works for most, but unfortunately not in your case.

Try deleting the drive in Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows reinstall it.

If that fails, do you have System Restore as an option? (You didn't specify the operating system, but I'm assuming it's XP)

Bear in mind that it may reinstall the virus.

If you have your XP CD, you can also try a Repair, but that's a long shot.

Failing all that, and I don't often suggest this, but you need to consider a format and install, especially as you were previously infected.

YOU ARE A GOD AMONGST MEN!!!... (or women?) Wow, that really worked! The first time I uninstalled the drivers (apparently I have 2, one for DVD-RAM another for regular cd-rom for my cd/dvd drive) I got the same error message 19. It prompted 2 installs. The first for the dvd ram drive, in which that one errored. However the second cd-rom installer succeeded but I couldn't read any discs since it was installed in the e:/ drive. I uninstalled both and only installed the cd-rom installer and now it seems to work great. Thanks a bunch! I'll probably end up reformatting anyway but it's good to know I can make back ups of everything I want to keep. You were a great help!!
