My burner is failing. Please help. I have not been able to find any driver updates for my hardware so I lay my faith in the hands of anyone who thinks they can help.

After burning multiple cds for many years, my burner refuses to read any new discs I insert. The frustrating part is that it will still read all my old cds and cd-rs, even cd-rws, but any new blanks I insert will un-readable. Even though they are exact same blanks I have been using for years. I don't know much on the topic, but it's as if the discs are not 'gripping' properly within the drive. They all make horrible screeching noises, and the odd disc will be detected. When trying to burn these discs they sometimes get into the 90% complete region before failing. (with various error msgs, often tracking)

Not sure on what pc specs I need to be posting, any reply would be awesome. Chur.

First thing to do is to try another brand of fresh discs.

Whether they have worked in the past doesn't mean anything.

If it still makes noises with the new ones, then your burner needs replacing.

Nah no brand works cept for the Imations I've always been using. Just tried burning the same compilation twice, both times reaching 100%, but recieving the error "could not perform fixation". It works fine when burning at 8x, but it seems to speed up at the end to perform the finalizing tasks, thus losing the tracking..... any way to change the burn settings to stop this?
