like to know if anyone has any answers on changing this over.i found this site and saw a thread containing a question from somebody who goes by the name TEMPLAR (VETERAN) ,the part templar added reads this.......... Does the drive show up ad a dvd rom in my computer? If not, you have turned off the service that reads the drive specs, and it just considers it a generic cd-rom. You will need toturn that service back on. If this is it, I will guide you to the correct service. UNFORTUNATLEY there was no follow on how to sort this problem out.But maybe if Templar is out there he may be willing to post the answer i desperately need!.

The only service (in XP) that has anything to do with CD/DVD drives is the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service.

That's only for the built-in burning that XP has though.

Anyway, what is your exact problem?

If the drive works OK, but you want to change the label (name), there area various ways to do that.
