Hey'a everyone,
I'm a complete newbie at networking, so bear with my poor explainations please....:uhwell:
Ok, I have an XP machine, and a Vista machine. I am trying to network between them both. I can ping the xp machine from Vista and get a response, and the other way around. So I know cable wise I'm all connected up. I can connect to the internet from both machines fine also. But for the life of me I just can't see the Vista machine on the XP one. Although I can see XP on Vista, but when I click it I get the message 'Windows cannot access PCNAME. Now, on my XP machine in Network Places under Local Network I have my shared docs folder showing, and my hard drive showing, both under 'local network'. But I also have my hard drive showing in 'my network places' under 'the internet' and that's freaking me out a little. Does that mean anyone on the net has access to my hard drive?
I've used the network wizard on both machines. I've given them both the same workgroup name.... I just don't know/understand enough about networking to sort this thing out and I really would appreciate your help. Thanks so much.
Tinks. :)
