I am also going to buy one of the above, the look ace for £199. Anyway, im 70% sure it plays DVD, SVCD, VCD, CD, Mp3, i read this infomation at http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk. There is also a hack on there to make it region free.

A late reply I know, but I purchased the Grundig GDV 620-HT just after Xmas and I'm exceptionally pleased with it. However, it doesn't recognise CDRs though it will play CDRWs. This seems to be a common feature of DVD players. It's a slight pain that I have to record audio Cds twice, once as CDR for the hi-fi and again as CDRW for the DVD, however a small price to pay for a really good value system.

:) I have the grundig gdv620-ht and it plays cdrs, although not the cheap silvers-it refuses to play them at all.
so any vcds I get I have to burn onto datasafe 24x- there is an opinion that this brand is one of the best, I have no probs with them.
the grundig also will play mp3 s , there is a hack for disabling macrovision and selecting multi region on tyhe dvd reviewer site:)

That's good to know, I'd tried with three different brands, Memorex, BASF and Dixons own (PCLine) and from two different drives without luck. Where can you get Datasafe 24x blanks?:)
