When I rip an DVD, it takes anywhere between 25-45 minutes, I have a Athlon-C 1.4ghz, 40 gig (7200 rpm) HD, 512 DDR ram, using Windows XP (Home), using SmartRipper 2.41 to rip.

My friend has an Athlon 800mhz, 30 gb HD, 512 SDRAM, using Windows 98, and using SmartRipper 2.41 to rip, but his does it in 5-15 minutes.

He changed his cdroms and HD to 'enable DMA', and that is what I'm thinking is why he can rip at faster speeds. I don't have that option using XP, I did go into Device Manager, and picked DMA when available. But still am ripping at slower speeds.

Oh, we both have a 16x DVD rom drive.

Any suggestions on how I might can change my settings to rip faster??

I updated my ASPI drivers, and that did the trick. I have an Artec 16x DVD rom. Now I'm ripping movies in 10 - 15 minutes.

he he - pioneer drive here rips in 6mins for an exact file copy and 10-12 when stripping audio streams etc.
my creative 12x dvd used to be rubbish and get nowhere near this. pioneer has ripped at up to 11.5X using gauge on smartripper.

I had used Windows XP update, and it found it for me. Under Driver update.

i had 8x afreey dvdrom that usually ripped dvds around 4-5x, i gave that to my brother when i got my 16x pioneer dvdrom. my brother stuck the afreey's drive in his pc and he can normally get 6-7x out of it and im lucky if i get 6x on my 16x pionner drive!!!

we both have dma enabled, but it seems to have a lot to do with ur motherboard. i have a slightly fast cpu and more ram than him, but he has a good mobo and i only have a cheap one (ECS K7AVA)

ive tried my pionner drive in his pc and it ripped at 9x!!!

I'm not gonna be much help. I don't know how to "Flash", and don't know if the DVDrom is region free, sorry!
