Set to slave only if you have another HD. If you only have one it should stay on master! Also how many mhz and Mem do you have? duffy90210 Feb 20, 2002, 11:10 AM I think Kof is been here long enough to know about master and slave drive, and what does Mhz and memory has to do with a faulty drive anyway ? Kof, I had the same problem with my IBM drives, better copy the data over if you can before the whole thing falls over. marcmail1 Feb 20, 2002, 11:20 AM ok ....I say no more about this issue:uhwell: duffy90210 Feb 20, 2002, 02:15 PM Marc Didnt meant to sound like that, I woz simply trying to point out the usual things, I apologize if the post sound'd offensive. jspr57 Feb 20, 2002, 03:31 PM In the past, when a drive has failed after it has been running for a short period, I have removed it from the machine and placed it in a freezer for a couple of hours, then hooked it up again. It sometimes will run long enough to remove the data to another safe storage medium. Regards Roger Moore Feb 20, 2002, 04:05 PM "placed it in a freezer for a couple of hours" Is that meant to be a joke or does it really work? Kof2000 - can you boot into DOS? Does your BIOS "see" the drive at boot? Also what OS are you using? Roger marcmail1 Feb 20, 2002, 04:55 PM Ok duffy I'm sorry as well.....Apologies taken! jspr57 Feb 20, 2002, 06:23 PM Originally posted by Roger Moore "placed it in a freezer for a couple of hours" Is that meant to be a joke or does it really work? Roger No Roger Moore it's not a joke, If you know any IT Engineers ask them and they will tell you. It does work but it is only so that you can get any files or importent data of the drive. i have used this trick on 5 hard drives it worked on four the fifth one was far to gone to save anything. Regards USELESS EUSTAS Feb 20, 2002, 07:44 PM What drive is it? what mootherboardis it? what opreating system is it? Have you tryed it on the second ide port yet? have you enabled it in the bios and checked the jumper settings on the drive? kof2000 Jul 31, 2002, 12:43 AM well. its not in the bios setup but i can see it on the dos screen and in windows it just takes ages to backup files to the master. |
