I would like to Backup my entire win xp harddrive on to cdr/w or another partition.
Both Norton Ghost and the utilities that come with new hardrives worked on win98, but nothing seemts to work on XP
the backup leaves out important files so that the backup copy cannot be used to do a full restore
Is there any other program that can do a full backup of a Win XP hardive?
Thanks

Ghost will backup XP just fine. I've done it many times. However I'm using the corporate version so it may act differently then the home version (if that's what your using). Also, make sure you have the latest version of Ghost. Norton claims the 2001 home version doesn't work with XP
Could you elaborate a little more on why you think it's not copying all the files?

I have Norton Ghost 2002
When I make a complete system backup to another partition or cdr and later due to a hard drive crash or whatever reason try to reinstall from the copy it says
Command .com and some other files missing and boot up fails.
The hard drive shows the same amount of data present but will not boot up
Norton FAQ site said that Ghost would not be able to make a bootable copy in Win Xp and 2000 due to security issues presumably MS would not like activated copies being shared out
I used Ghost and utilities like MAXIBLAST that came with maxtor drives with win 98 with no problem

Hmmmm thoguth I answered this last night but must have been when me PC crashed, anyway...
I have Ghosted XP to a new harddrive already, but I did have to rebuild the boot record from the Recovery Console. You may also need to use a switch such as -id or -ib to do it correctly.
I have not used it yet in XP, but Dantz Retrospect would be an alternative for backup, not imaging.
