Thinking of upgrading from 6x write to a 12x write, I do alot of burning. Not audio just plain data, I know it takes me about 13 mins to do 1 80min CD with 6x write.

Was wondering how fast a 12x write could do :)

If the CD is full 80 min@1x/6x = 13 min 20 sec + the lead in and lead out burn time. It is simple math that 80min@1x/12x = 6 min 50 sec + the lead in and lead out burn time. In other words if the burner burns twice as fast it will take about half as long.

Keymaster,

I think you may want to factor in burning time for burning technologies that use Zone-CLV (your method of computing burnspeeds is accurate for CLV burning though).

No 12x burners use Zoned CLV, so it isn't a factor.

Right Celtic. I think the slowest burner to use anything other than CLV was the Yamaha 16x which used P-CAV (as does their 24x burner).

This issue was worth raising, however since this may be why there was some uncertainty about the burn time of a 12x burner.
