Can't format a cd-rw using my Plextor 12/10/32A. Using Adaptec 5.0, the status bar goes all the way across and the light on front of the burner blinks as if it is formatting but it never stops(have let it go for hours). Can burn cd-r's with no problem and have one old cd-rw that I can save and delete files from.

Are you trying to format the CDRW with DirectCD 5.x?

Do a full erase then try format it again.

perhaps its kicked, if van nugent's plan doesn't work then perhaps its time to get one NEW cdrw.

I had this exact same problem with my Plextor and directCD. I could not format a disk, but I could read disks already formatted.

The solution is quite simple: go to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS\ folder and look for this file: Scsi1hlp.vxd
When found, rename it to Scsi1hlp.vx_
Reboot your pc. Now directCD will function.
