VEFF Feb 23, 2002, 07:33 PM I am curious how many burns members have made
with a single burner?
I have nuemrous burns since February of 2001.
However, they were created with several burners:
I started with my USB burner on my new (at the time) laptop,
then I bought a new desktop last June and a
12X burner to go with it, and started using that.
In September I upgraded to a 24X burner, with which I have burned
quite a few CD-Rs so far.
I was wondering how many burns have been accomplished
with a single burner?
Thanks!
Brian- Feb 24, 2002, 02:28 AM my first burner was a liteon 16102b, and that broke after 100 burns. I'm now on my second liteon, and i've done about 80 so far. fingers crossed...

Sorry to hear that.
100 burns only; ouch! I think I have done more than that in the last three or four weeks.
I hope you have better luck with the replacement.
I had a similar problem with a DVD player. It quit after only five weeks of average use; I've had a replacement (identical model) for about 9 months now, and it is still going strong.
Lazza Feb 24, 2002, 09:17 AM I've done aprox 5,000 burns (full discs) on a LiteOn 24102b so far.
I was talking to a hardware bod a few months back and he said that Plextor reckon that a single CDRW drive made by them is good for 100,000 burns. Don't know if this is true or not though, sounds a bit optimistic to me.
V6CMG Feb 24, 2002, 11:31 AM If you read the stuff when buying most will say 40000 to 60000
Ian997 Feb 24, 2002, 03:00 PM I've done approx 10000 burns with my trusty old yamaha SCSI 6x4x16, and it is still going strong. It reads faster than my new IDE plex 24x10x40.............
AdioKIP Feb 24, 2002, 06:39 PM Well I'd say I've done 1000-2000 on my TDK 8x VeloCD. Had thought of upgrading but the difference in doing a cd in 9 minutes and 4-6 isn't worth paying for. I'll probably keep it until it dies out completely which may be soon, have been having problems but I'm not sure if its software or hardware.
VEFF Feb 24, 2002, 07:17 PM Wow; some high numbers.
Sounds promising.
I think I'm only approaching 300 - 400 (could be more, I haven't kept close track); then again I've only had my burner since last September.
Ian997 Feb 24, 2002, 08:04 PM Hi VEFF
Wot burner have you got ?
creafish Feb 25, 2002, 10:17 AM my old bce 4x is still working after about 1000 to 1200 burns, it takes over 20 min for a full disc so i'm replacing it soon. b:)
Papeseh Feb 25, 2002, 12:22 PM Ive done about 400 on me 6x write Ricoh. Not had too many problems with that, so i decided to go for another Ricoh 12x- i hope thats just as reliable =]
Trondos Feb 25, 2002, 12:58 PM My old HP 7200i, which is a rebadged Philips 3600, did 500 burns before it started to make coasters. It still works as a reader, but who wants a 6X reader today?
I would probably help to clean the lens, but I bought a Liteon 12X instead!
M_rsa Feb 25, 2002, 05:15 PM I have done about 40 with my liteon 16x so hopefully I have got a hell of alot more burning left in it.

Hi,
I had a 12X Philips PCRW1208 which I sold because I got a new 24X
QPS CRD-BP1500P (re-badged Sanyo) in September and had four CD-RW drives at that point.
I now have three burners:
a Philips 2X CDD-3610 from 1998
a 24X QPS CRD-BP1500P, with Sanyo firmware 6.38 (works great :) )
a 4X external Philips PCRW464K (USB version of PCRW404)
I may upgrade to a 40 or 48 speed CD burner, since I burn
quite frequently, and my free time is valuable.
I will buy a DVD+RW drive as soon as the long-awaited 2nd generation that supports the write-once DVD+R (and not just the DVD+RW discs) comes out.
(I bought one and returned it when it became apparent
that the first generation would probably not support DVD+R).
MrMP Feb 25, 2002, 10:32 PM I have had 5 plextors, 4 of them failed between 1000 & 2000 burns
My Mirai (Sanyo) 12/10/32 scsi has done over 6000 and not a single coaster
ccmarci Feb 26, 2002, 02:24 AM I had a panasonic(matsuashita) cw7585 and it died after only 400 burns (lucky it was still under warranty). Ive now got a sony and have done 80 burns so far.
C0UGAR UK Feb 27, 2002, 12:57 AM In my tower I still have my trusty old Philips CDD2600 6X2 which I keep for keeps sake that still works, I reckon it burned over 2000 psx, which is = to 12000+ today, poor thing was running almost 24/7 in a P120
