Lately everytime I try to burn a CD in Nero 5, I get a power calibration error and writing fails. This happens about a minute after I start the burn. Any ideas why. I have a TDK 8x VeloCD drive and have never had problems before. Not sure what the problem is now. Thanks in Advance for any help.

I'm going to move this to the cdrw forum for you.

Alright ElaineM thanks. I would have put it there but I thought that the CDRW forum was more hardware related as in advice on purchases and other stuff, wasn't sure if it dealt with the software as well.

I had the same problem with a TDK 12X, called TDK and they said it could be due to the laser head is out of position, this could have been caused by over-burining as this will strecth the laser out of its normal position.

That is the official answer from TDK, anyway, they replaced the drives (2 of them).

I am not totally sure what causes this error, but its almost certain its a hardware problem, but the point I made to TDK, is that we use almost all makes/models from different manufactures, and none gave the problem, in fact, we use the Yamaha 2100E exclusively for overburn and these drives had never return a coaster.

Sometimes it could be the media your using. Try a different kind.

I had this problem, i had a slower computer 233mhz, and my 8x writer could only write at 4x..... and even then i would recieve that error.
Now i have an 850mhz.. 600+ ram .... and i burn at 8x with out any errors, using all different types of media except.. maxell, and memorex.

I also upgraded the firmware for my cd-rw drive... that might help also.

Well I tried using an old verbatim I had laying around instead of one off this imation spindle I've been using and it burned fine. I'll do a few more test just to be sure this is the problem. I'm thinking my drive doesn't like imations. This is why I normally stick to memorex but the store was sold out :-(
