HI

The problems are:

every so often, with both media player and powerdvd4 the dvd skips forward bout 0.5 seconds. i also get the dvd skipping when i rip it to my HD using smartripper, then playing it back

recently, when i was watching a dvd - which is not scratched at all......the sound just cut out abotu half way through. i stopped the dvd and started again where i got up to - it was then fine, later on the sound went all flickery, i stopped and then it was ok

i am using XP and PowerDVD 4, and my PC is plenty good enough to play dvds - 1.2 ghz, geforce 3 etc

i have installed the ASPI layer using forceaspi - is this creating teh problem - i thought it was meant to help

my dvd drive is a good make = pioneer, and only 6 months old - is my dvd drive nackered?

Please help
Cheers

This hardly seems like a solution, but have you tried any other software? I used to have PowerDVD installed on my system and the sound would just cut off after 5 minutes. I switched over to Win DVD and have had no problems since.

Have you thought about:

Checking DMA is enabled
Defragging HDD
Flashing DVD drive's firmware
Installing new 4in1 drivers (if mobo has via chip)

last time i tried windvd it didn't work at all, but that was when i have 98 not XP

wot are 4in1 drivers - i'm pretty sure i have a via chip, wot do these drivers do?

i'll try reinstalling powerdvd and checking dma is enabled

i tried watching dvd with aspi layers uninstalled, and installed - no difference so its not that

hhmmmmmm

any more ideas?

thanks for you help

The "4 in 1" drivers include the bus mastering drivers which you WILL need to keep DMA enabled - although XP comes with them built in it really is a good idea to update them... http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

Hope this helps...

k i'll check out that site - cheers m8

i checked in XP, going through a troubleshooting thing, and dma mode is enabled

powerdvd 4 shoudln't be teh prob and its designed for XP,

the only thing i think it is is drivers, and maybe my drive is nackered

anyoen know where i can get XP driver for a Pioneer DVD 116 16x DVD drive, i have tried driverguide.com but cannot find the exact one for my drive and XP

i have a simlar problem with my dvdrom (pioneer 16x dvd 106)... i have 2 dvds (both dual layer dvds) that stop or jump half way through the movie even though there r no scratchs. i think pioneer dvdrom has problems when it changes layers!

btw: have u tried the dvds on another dvdrom or a stand-alone dvd player???

hi

its skips etc and sounds cuts out on all dvds that i have been playing recently

i never used to have this problem, only recently, however it has always skipped forward fratcions of a second during playback

i'm going to try using a different dvd player softare tonite, if that doesn't help, i think it might be my drive is nackered

cheers
