I used Smartripper to rip the movie to my harddrive.
with the intent of playing the movie from my hardrive.
I started powerdvd and selected play from harddrive but when then
I got the message (This disk is not formatted to play in this region.)
Could someone tell me what I need to do about this?

I did the same with the move THe Green mile without any problems.

I got it to work using DVD genie.
Now it will play from my harddrive.

Sounds like an RCE error. You need to use IFOedit to make it "region free". This will clear out the RCE code.
