I have a Toshiba sd-m1302 8X dvd-rom drive....i have been trying to check dma and restart the computer, but everytime i do, it's not checked anymore when it reboots...i know for a fact that this drive supprts dma, so what's the problem?
Yes i've tried to update the driver...it says the best one is already installed...it works on now, just want to know why i can't have dma checked....thanx.

you are using up specific DMA settings on other devices (which u didn't assign) and the DVD-Rom is trying to use the same ones and fails. Soundblasters are notorious for taking up a few because it will try to assign one to Dos settings and one to Windows settings pending on your OS.
There is a way to find out what is using what, but I can't remember the command. I must be slipping.

Yeah it kind of does. . . like I said you only have so many DMA resources. Your Harddrives are using them, your sound card, and your burner are all using them. You may not have any usable addresses left.

If you have a VIA motherboard, have you tried installing the busmaster drivers?

rishardc, u were right, i switched the drives around and now the dvd-rom is master and burner is slave, and i can now keep dma checked on the dvd-rom, which is good, but now, no dma on the burner, and it works better with dma checked...so, i think i do need to get new busmaster drivers...thanx for all ur help guys...
