Hi I recently made a copy of my FF8 disk 1 (on my PS1) using CloneCD, it dosen't have a modchip but i thought that if i booted the game from the original CD (which is a bit scratched up on the FMV sequences) then I can just swap the disks over at the main menu and play using the backup disk. Alas it just freezes when I insert the copy! I thought that I wouldnt need a modchip. Anyone knows what's going on? The copy is ok cos it has the same files (an image file, something called SLES and "SYSTEM") as the original CD. So why does my PS freeze? Anyone can help?

You can swap it, but you have to do it right after the psx reads the boot sectors on the original disc. I must warn you, it can cause serious damage to your psx and may not be worth it in the long run.

Yeah I used a swap on my PSX for a long time, and even my psone, with no damage to my system ever. But since I got a PS2, I play all backups on that instead, so I sold my ps1, and psx
