im having problems with the sound on my pc, the problem is that when i try to play an audio cd or play a dvd there is a crackling noise in the background, its not the soundcard as that is new and the noise was there b4 i got the soundcard, im wondering if its a driver problem or my dvd and cdrw drives as i robbed them out of a hp for the pc i have just built...
system spec:-
1700xp chip
k7s5a mobo
40gb maxtor hd
prophet 4000xp 32mb
soundblaster 5.1 live
LG ced8080b cdrw
pioneer dvd114
anyone any ideas ? thnx

If you installed the SBLive in the same slot the old card was in try moving it.

Does bump mean you tried moving your soundcard? I don't see how it can be a driver problem since the noise was there before you installed the soundcard (the drivers are installed for the soundcard).

I'm guessing you have a PCI video card. If so, then that's the problem. I have a K7S5A and I, ironically enough, have a Prophet 4000XT as well. I have the same crackling sound with the board and I have found out the K7S5A doesn't like about 50-75 % of the PCI video cards out there. If you do have AGP, then maybe the AGP versions of the Kyros don't like the K7S5A either. HTH :)
Edit:
By the way, the sound won't crackle all the time, just when there is high demand for the video. Such as, like you said, DVD video, audio CDs in apps with visualisations, some games, etc...
