When a processor states its clock speed at say XP 1800+ what does this mean, i know its 1800mhz but does this mean it only works with win xp? also is it capable of going over 1800mhz, and is it safe?

I hate win xp, but just bought one of the above processors, hope i can still use it

Windows XP means Windows Xperience. Athlon XP is Xtreme Performance. It has nothing to do with the operating system.

Also the 1800+ isn't 1800MHz, it's actually something like 1530MHz I think. The 1800+ is a (VERY conservative) 'real world performance rating' as compared to a Pentium 4 (actually an Athlon 1800+ runs much faster than the P4 1800MHz, and more like a P4 2GHz). This is because the Athlon CPU does more per clock cycle than a Pentium CPU (without getting into too much detail).
