I'm trying to change my Region 2 PAL unwatchable on my USA DVD players (except on PC) movie Joy Stick Heroes (called "The Wizard" in the USA, only released on DVD in Germany.) into an NTSC DVDR. I'm trying to use the program TMPGEnc to do so. The movie is in full screen 4:3 format and I'm not doing anything with the audio at all for the moment, (Since it's in German and I want English audio). Here's exactly what I did. I created a 3.34 GB PAL M2V file on my hard drive from the DVD using SmartRipper. Then I did the following:

Opened up the TMPGEnc program and closed the project wizard that came up. Then I went to the "Video source" box, clicked on "Browse", then "All files(*.*) then selected my file, "joystick.m2v". I erased the "Output file name" box that filled in after doing this. I made sure that the "Video only" box was checked, then clicked on the "Setting" tab. On the "Video" tab, I changed these options:

Stream type: MPEG-2 Video (used to be MPEG-1 Video)
Size: 720x480 (used to be 720x576)
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps (used to be 25 fps)
Video format: NTSC (used to be PAL)

And I left everything else the same. Then I clicked on "File, Output to file, MPEG file". A "Save as" box opened up. In the "Save as type" box, MPEG-2 Video stream(*.m2v) was selected. I typed Wizard in the file name box, clicked "Save" and then went to sleep. The movie is once again in a 3.34 GB m2v file and is about 1hr 35 min long. About 8 hours later I woke up and looked at my PC. To my surprise, the program was still converting! It was 61% complete. I got ready for work, looked at the PC again, it was 75% complete by then. I made a note, "DO NOT TOUCH" taped it to the monitor and turned the monitor off and went to work. I have 3 sisters and both parents to worry about screwing things up for me. I called my sister later and she said the program had finished. When I came home, I looked at my newly created NTSC wizard.m2v file and it was only 464 MB. Hmm. I opened the file up in SpruceUp and it's only 56 or so minutes long instead of it should be about double that length. What did I do wrong (besides go to work and leave my PC unsupervised)? Is this supposed to happen? I really don't have another 16 or whatever hours to tie up my computer with! Is there an easier way? Help! I need to later sync this file with audio from the NTSC VHS copy of this same movie. Thanks!

I just thought of something. Can it be as simple as using IFOEDIT to change the value in the IFO file in the directory that Spruce creates from PAL to NTSC? Would that actually work? Can it be that simple?
