I've just been to Asda to pick up a Pacific 750.

But the Pacific 1000 is the same price!!

Whats the difference??

There wasn't much info on the boxes other than, the 1000 had SVCD, VCD on the box and the 750 had MP3, CD-R

A link to a site would come in handy to compare these two, I can't find a site either, only links to sites about Hacks for the machine.

No, not the Macrovision.
The Region Hack worked fine, instead of going to the number 9 though, pressing the enter key again says All on the screen.

I'm still looking for a macrovision hack for it (I've not tried it out though, never know, the above hack may disable Macro as well!)

Guarantee

Yes it has a three year guarantee. You keep the ASDA receipt from ASDa. Its a 1 for 1 replacement so if it goes wrong, it will not be repaired but replaced.

Macrovision
This is from the link JCAT mentioned

macrovision hack for the Pacific DVD-750!!!!
Open Tray.
Enter 4561 on remote.
Press ENTER on remote until display indicates Macrovision OFF.
Close tray.

Region Codes
From HEARTS reply:

press open/close key
either press 8421 on your remote
press enter key untill ALL appears
press open/close
your dvd is now region free

All the above work on the 750!

MP3
All MP3's I've tried all work okay, I'm new to this but I was happy the machine finds the MP3's through Directories on the Disk.

I've tried DVD, CD-R MP3 and VCD's in the machine, they all work fine.

As for the quality, they sound alright to me, but I am connected solely through my TV and not through separate speakers.
The machine has got DTS though, from what I can gather this would make a big difference with separate speakers configured for surround sound.

The machine comes with a SCART cable and also the Red, white and yellow Svideo, audio cables.

Im quite happy with it so far

BLUEMOON NEVER ALONE:tup:
You could be right about that m8. :(

As you say so many people are saying such good things about the 750 it *must* be a good player. My thoughts are that it was really a compatibility issue with my TV (Thomson DPL 28" W/S). Through the Scart it would only play B/W in one but colour in the other. And the 16:9 would not work, only 4:3 no matter what settings you entered.

But I am glad I bought the CyberHome 528 though, I have tried SVCD's on it as well and they are fine. So many of these cheap DVD players seem much better than the dearer ones though, and that can't be bad for the buyer.

nice one bluemoonbaz, keep em coming up again for a top player! If anyone has trouble playing certain svcd's heres what to do if you put one in and it makes the pacific dvd intro sign go all funny like greeny colours and can't see it,dont worry because the counter will start playing after it has done this but you will not have anything on your tv screen,no audio no picture just press stop then play and hey presto all is back to normal and plays fine don't know why it does this on certain svcd's,but if youve got one and this happens that is how to solve it.The only one mine does it on is the 4 disk svcd of lord of the rings,so if you have had trouble don't despair its not a crap version u have got just do this and it will work ok,ps best if it loads without the greeny colours making the pacific screen go funny ok.

Either are very good the 750 is the newer one and there is a hack available for disableing the macrovision and to make it region free, the 1000 you can make region free with a hack but as of yet there is no code to disable the macrovision,so it really depends on what u want it for, also the 750 is in sexy silver and the 1000 is in boring black.Another thing is that i believe the 1000 has an in built decoder for dolby digital 5.1 so if you have the means to use this then it would obviously be the best one for you, hope this helps. In my view both are top machines!!!!

Final Fantasy (dvdr cheaper unbranded media jumps occasionally but it did this in m8s expensive sony)
Cats & Dogs (dvd silver)
Shrek (dvdr)

all worked spot on with the exception of FF as stated above (but was still ok & easily watchable)

all were bought via the BST Software forum from the following traders who all come highly reccomended: OriginalWizards / delsdvds / kaizerboy

good luck all
& btw why is the 750 the newere model????????!!!!!!!:D :D :D

Mar 05, 2002, 05:10 AM
Why does the pacific 1000 play SVCD's immediately and the 750 sometimes does not?? For Harry Potter - disk 1 and LOTR's SVCD I have to wait 30 seconds then press stop then play again. If the 750 is a newer model why does it not advertise that it plays SVCD's yet the 1000 does! and indeed it plays them seamlessly.

Can I just ask if anybody has a sound delay with the Pacific 1000 when watching SVCD's?

I watch a SVCD and everything starts fine, then the sound will start skipping for a fraction of a second at a time, and after a minute or so the sound seems to be running behind (or ahead of) what's happening on screen.

Can someone tell me if this is just a Pacific 1000 problem, if it is I will return it to ASDA and get a 750!

Sorry for not putting anymore posts up until today had major probs with ntl connecting to this site!I must say the 750 is a quality machine,my m8 has got a sony that cost at least 3 - 4 times more than my pacific, and it can't play half the stuff mine can, also took mine round and put it on his tv and he even said the picture quality was as good if not better than his sony,so if you wanna go and waste loads a money on a top brand go ahead but my advice is stop reading these post and get down to your nearest asda NOW!!!!!

Ok Ok Ok.... you win.

Having been disappointed with the sound on my Decca, I've decided to take it back and nip down to Asda tomorrow. They had three left yesterday, so hopefully there may be one left for me!

Anyone know whether or not I'll get my 3 year guarantee money back on the Decca? I bought it a week last Friday and paid an extra £20 for the priveledge of having a 3 year guarantee, which comes as standard from Asda. Anyone?????

Cheddar,

Worth asking, i would of thought they will. You usually get a 14 day money back no quibble guarantee.

Good choice on the 750, hope you get one, they are top!!!

Oh dear..... Asda are clean out of Pacific 750's :(

I tried four in the area, and no joy. In fact, my local Asda had three in yesterday (Sunday) morning. Today they have none. Selling like hot cakes!

Asda told me that they're expecting more deliveries all the time, so don't panic people! They'll be available again VERY soon (probably this week) :)

Fingers crossed :p

Whats the point of a 3 yr guarantee if the device does not play DVDR's or SVCD's correctly?

The FWS DVDR's look set to be the insdustry-standard for unbranded DVDR's. They simply dont play correctly on the 750's. - after about 10 mins the DVD will skip and even stop. The industry standard ripping software DVD2SVCD produces disk1 that does not lip synch correctly on the 750's. If people need to test SVCD's on these things dont take my word go and get urself a copy of LOTR on SVCD and see what I mean - ensure you test each of the disks. You will find split screens and you will find that you have to pratt around stoping and starting the disk for the display to appear.

Keep your receipts folks and and Dont say I didnt warn you all.........

w3dal
Mar 13, 2002, 07:07 AM
Ive played 3 different SVCD films on my 750 and all have worked fine.

Also someone on this topic has tried DVDrs and they play fine 2.

At the end of the day the machine is 89 quid. If u want a machine that plays svcds better you should be looking at the 200 + mark

The 750 model can rewind and fast forward at speeds of x2, x5, x10(?), x20 - not sure about the x10, but its definetly the other speeds, both on VCD's and SVCD's.

The 750 can be hacked to play multiregion DVD's and have Macrovision turned off. The 1000 you cant. The 750 is silver and the 1000 is black.

macrovision hack for the Pacific DVD-750!!!!

There seem to be so many problems with this new version of the Pacific 750 (in terms of the macro/region hack working together) that I decided to go out and buy the Dansai 852 (Tesco in Prestwich, Manchester, have a plentiful supply of the 852 and 1010 models).

I have had a Decca before, and took it back because of the poor sound quality, but this Dansai is amazing!

Personally, I think it's nicer looking than the Pacific, and at only £99.49, it's only a tenner more than the Pacific without all these problems.

I'm not trying to put anyone down with the Pacific - my m8 has one and is very happy with it, but I just feel that those who are looking for a new budget DVD player should consider the Dansai.

The 1010 model is also available at Tesco for £85, making it cheaper than the Pacific 750, too!

I don't honestly know m8. The 1010 doesn't look anywhere near as nice as the 852, but I think they both play the same formats. They're completely different units though.

I just figured the 852 was a nicer looking model and everyone on the DVD player review sites have been raving on about how wonderful it is :)

Anyone else know what the differences are between them?

Cheddar! :D

bub1
Apr 24, 2002, 02:49 AM
The 1010 doesnt have an LCD screen on the unit which for me is very important as this displays Tracks etc. & remaining minutes on Disc. Also the 1010 doesnt have Macro removal. For these 2 reasons I opted for the 852, if you have an extra £15 you would be silly not to go for the 852. Unless you prefer a midi size DVD player than go for 1010

The Dansais play everything but doesnt struggle on SVDs as some Pacifics do. I originally bought a Pacific 750 and tried several discs and all I can say it was a fussy machine especially with SVSds you have to start and stop machine to get them started. I took mine back and am very happy with the Dansai which I could have taken back aswell if I wanted

Here is my problem.
I bought the Minato G1 from Tesco's last year. Generally happy with it, but it has real problems with VCD and SVCDs with audio sync, which other people have mentioned.
I've tried to hassle tesco for a refund, but they say as I've had it for more than a month I should have tested it by now.
I'm now going to sell the player, and buy something that is better suited to VCDs and SVCDS. Here are my choices:

Dansai 852 - seems a good player and a reasonable price, seems to play vcd ok
pacific 750 - generally rated highly, but now no macrovision disable option now. 3 year warrany. I've heard SVCD playback can be a bit fussy.

I'm not too bothered on the macrovision side, this is a bonus really. It needs to be region free/selectable, and must play VCD/SVCD with no audio sync probs.

Your comments would be appreciated!!!

Never tried the Pacific - that's bluemoonbaz's area ;)

But I do have a Dansai 852 and it is a superb machine. Looks much nicer than the Pacific, too, and doesn't have the problems with the macro and multiregion hacks that the Pacific currently has.

Only down side to the Dansai is that Tesco only offer a 1-year guarantee as standard and it's a tenner more.

Take a look at both and then decide.

Bluemoonbaz - yes m8, I know you're impartial, but you know more about the Pacifics than I do (I've never had one!) :)

I notice you're in Manchester, so tell your m8's to go to Tesco in Prestwich. Got mine from there last week and they had loads in stock (both the 1010 and 852).

I can get hold of a 852 and 1010 from my local tesco. I've heard about the issues with the pacific and SVCDs which worries me. I know the 1010 does not have an lcd panel, are there any other differences between this and the 852?
Thanks all

OK looks like the 1010 is the one. Are there any things the 1010 cannot do, compared to the 852?
Just want to make sure I'm not missing out on anything!

Got the 1010 yesterday, no audio sync problems.
I've been told it will play DVDR ok, the only one I have (LOTR) just brings up the file menu screen. Is this the player or the disc?

Is anybody having any problems with the pacific 750 freezing frequently?

I recently bought a Dansai 852 from Tesco, at first it seemed fine, played svcd fine mp3 etc, but then i slowly noticed onl vcds the sound would suddenly go out of sync and would not rectify itself.

I have tried numerous films from different traders and the results are the same

At first i thought i had a bargain, but i'll be taking it back tomorrow, so if anyone can recommend a machine that plays everything without the faults mentioned, myself and a few others would be grateful.

I might pop along to Richer Sounds and try a cyberhome 528.

Anyone got one?

Thats strange Jamo must be your machine, I have tried an endless amount of VCDs and SVCDs from dealers and my own without a problem anywhere. I havent heard any other complaints from other 852 owners.

My 852 used to pause the film at eratic times during a film I thought it was films but played without a hitch on a friends, got it replaced with the 1010 this one plays all films wthout a glitch.
The 1010 cannot remove Macrovision though and does not have a digital readout on the front.
Both seem good but there does seem to be a lot of dud ones, my mates had 3 go bang on him & there bloody hard to replace cos there allways out of stock!!
