I have an old school Psx, model SCPH 1001I've had it since a year after it came out, got it modded then, and has worked more or less ever since. I recently got a PAL Game that (I'm in the US by the way) I've been looking for for a looong time. I pop it in, and the sound works perfectly, but the screen was scrolling like mad. Do I have to get another Mod chip? I have one of the Pre stealth ones. Any advice guideance will be greatly appreciated. Post, or email me at Drunken1@adelphia.net

Thanks.

It's just a problem with the video mode being incompatible. If you have a cd burner download and burn import player from www.megagames.com. This disc works a treat for this problem. I think you can also use a scart lead to connect your ps to the tv. I'm not not positive on this as I live in Oz and we don't have scart connections.

Thanks for the reply, Do you know what section it's under? I couldn't seem to find it. Thanks For Replying! This is my only PAL game, so I probably won't get the cable. I might try and stumble my way thru imaging the game and burning it with one of the patches from megagames. Thanks Again!

Here it is. Download the import player light US version. http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_utils_bootcd.shtml

Drunken1,

What is the name of the game? For me, import player did nothing.

PAL system users have options : Import player, SCART, Universal path. NTSC users don't have any. Only thing works is game specific PAL patch. For example, PAL to NTSC for Sympsons Wrestling works. Again, not all the patches work as expected.

Let us know your result.

I downloaded an burned import playerlight for the US. The Game, Shaolin, is a PAL game and my Psx is the original SCPH 1001 NTSC model. It's chipped, with one of the 1st modchips available, and It plays cdr's fine, I have to tip the system to Play them, however. The boot disk booted up just fine, and I tried every video setting, NTSC, PAL, OFF, it wouldn't boot the game. As I stated before, if I put the CDR in directly, it boots and does the scrolling thing. Thanks to yonlee's reply, I'm fairly certain it isn't my beat up old playstation not booting off of the importplayer. Now I was wondering, don't the newer stealth chips boot regardless of reigon?
Chips are fairly inexpensive, and I can find some one local to install, Would that be a viable option? I really don't want to get another Station, as I don't have a ps2 yet, and would just as soon get one of those and get it chipped. I did have a thought though, and that would be to Image the game, (Shaolin, which I have the nTSC Jap version, it's a cool 4 player martial arts game that got canned for US release, but they only released it in english in the UK, has a cool action rpg mode.) and then try to apply one of the PAL to NTSC patches from Megagames. I managed to burn the boot disc, so Imaging the game with cdrwin shouldn't be too hard, right? I've never done it before. So near yet so far. I guess I might have to wait a little longer. What say you all?

Thanks for all the replies and advice by the way.

Drunken1-

No matter what chip you get, your PSX will never play PAL games as it does NTSC. It has absolutely nothing to do with the mod-chip. NTSC and PAL video modes are simply just that ... different video modes. You can't buy a cable for it here in the US; we can't use SCART leads and the like here. Import Player Light works 100% for -almost- all the games I have in PAL but for some games, it's just hopeless.

As for using the boot disc ... you DID hold down the button for the door on the PSX right?? In order for the IPL to boot the game, the PSX can't know that it has been opened (same concept as using a Pro Action Replay, swap method, etc) I have -NEVER- had a game that didn't at least boot up to
-something- with IPL, not always a perfect conversion, but something.

If you do get it working, IPL has an in game screen adjust btw, don't know if that info was in the file you d/l from megagames.com

No, I didn't do any thing with the door, How would I go about it? It asks you to swap the disks, How can i fix it so it doesn't know the door is open?

Thanks for the repy!

Drunken1-

Pretty simple to do ...

(1) The "right way": Get a spring like the one that comes with the Pro Action Replay.

(2) The "quick fix": Jam a paperclip or similar object into the hole where the lid pushes down to hold the button down.

This "button" is located on the right side of your PSX, in the back ... directly below the small plastic piece that is attached to the lid. It's a circle with a small dot in the middle (perfect for the spring or a paperclip)

To do a test run: (1) Push the button down and hold it down with a paper clip, (2) Turn your PSX on with the boot disc in (3) when the disc loads, leave the settings as is and press X, start, whatever - the disc will stop spinning (4) insert Shaolin and press X, start, whatever again ... the game should boot up. Once you let go of that button though, it's all over and you have to start again. You can see why the spring is useful.

Thanks 420, How would I install the Spring permenantly? And Imaging the game and applying a PAL To NTSC Patch won't work? Does the Patch have to be tailored specifically to a game?

The spring that came with my plugmod has a slight "L" shape at one end, the straight part of that end goes into the hole, and the rest of the "L" shape sits on top of the button, the other end of the spring can slide onto the plastic peg that's on the lid of the psx. You could probably do this by winding a paperclip around a pencil or something, shouldn't be too hard. You could also stick something in there to hold the button down, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the peg, or you could remove the peg, but then you'd have to take the thing out for some multi-disc games, as they only start up after the lid has been opened and closed. With the spring, all you have to do is lift it up a little and release it.
If you still can't get Import Player to work, then making an image with CDRWIN and applying a patch from megagames should work fine, but I recommend you keep your read/burn speeds low since you have to place your psx in a vertical position.

The spring looks something like this, about 2 inches long:

hehe ... now you have an illustration from NateV that you can use.

Drunken1-

In my experience, most patches suck.

-Examples-
- I've got FIFA 2001 in PAL (patch with a game-specific patch), the color is all screwed up, everything is the color of vomit.
- Ridge Racer 4 in PAL - game looks like it has been perfectly patched (again, game specific patch) all the way up to when you actually start playing. the bottom of the screen is missing
- R-Type Delta - I created the patch for this one myself using PAL4U. It simply doesn't work at all.

If you don't mind risking a few discs in your attempts at different patches, then go for it. megaggames has plenty of info on patching and it's VERY easy. any more problems, just ask. :) but I still recommend using the Import Player Light :)

Tried the paperclip trick, Didn't work :-(

I have a friend that has a Modded PS2 that plays PAL games, I guess I'll just have to take it to his house or wait till I get a modded PS2, Boo hoo!

Oh Well. Thanks for the advice guys. I tried it with the Yu-gi-oh game that has the anti mod code in it. It wouldn't boot that either.

I got a Modded PS2, now Shaolin works Great! Now I tried the Gameshark disk from Psxcopyworld, and it won't boot Yugioh either on the ps2 or the old school ps1, thoughts?
