kgen3001 Mar 19, 2002, 12:15 AM in my case i like the psx change cd because u don't have to go thru the all of the steps in the modchip u have to open it up and install it and u won't even know that u installed it right or wrong for the psx change it is easy u get a cd and a spring and a white little card for the spring is for the psx regular one the white card is for the ps1 it shows all of the instruction for how to use he psx change cd and its easy and for the modchip u have to go thru a lot of steps
OvAZ kLocKz Mar 19, 2002, 01:54 AM i disagree, a modchip is way better, its cheaper, and its easy to install. dont have to swap disk. there's instruction on how to install it, i did it myself, it took me a while but it was worth it...
why the hell you want swap disk every time u play?? i had the plugmod and it was annoying to keep swapping disk. that 's why i got the modchip..
datec Mar 19, 2002, 03:05 AM modchip is best for the reasons above and also to allow you to play multiple-disk games like ff9 or mgs
ray-comp Mar 19, 2002, 03:08 AM I Think the Mod Chip will win this one.
Ray:)
B0BTASTIC Mar 19, 2002, 08:24 AM i bought a psx changer v2 cd when i got my psone.it is really cool as a boot cd for imports/backups (except having to keep my psone lid open all the time while using it).but when u play a game on multiple disc's with no save point at the end of disc one u r screwed m8:( i recon a mod chip is the best way:tup:
420 Mar 19, 2002, 07:20 PM Mod-chip will win hands-down ... the PSX X-change is simply for people who can't install a modchip and don't want to pay someone else to do it. I went the route of the Goldfinger (Pro Action Reply rebadged) when i first got my PSX ... only did that b/c my hands are unsteady as hell and I fried my PSX mobo. Finally, I broke down and paid the $20 to let someone else do it. I'd never go back.
btw kgen - that is one -HELL- of a long sentence LMAO
... and one time ... at band camp .... I stuck a flute in my p-ssy
knarf Mar 19, 2002, 07:31 PM I use the ps x change 2 and don't have a problem with it . the mod is probally the most convienent way to go though.
kgen3001 Mar 19, 2002, 11:31 PM ok so modchip is better than psx change i'll try to get a modchip and install it in is it hard or easy to install and don't u need a soldering iron to install it ok the modchip is better
420 Mar 19, 2002, 11:59 PM kgen -
You can get mod-chips for the PSX/PS1 very cheap now. Yes, you need a soldering iron; max of 15 watts. You can get one for about $5. Instructions should come with the chip, or else you're not dealing with a quality company. If you've got a steady hand, it's easy. if you don't let someone who does have steady do it.
kgen3001 Mar 20, 2002, 09:25 PM thanks u guys
psibob84 Mar 20, 2002, 09:42 PM or if you a brave you can install it wit a 30 watt soldering iron.
it is really easy because i had not touched a soldering iron in 3/4 yrs (and even then only secondary school electronics claas) . i just got my hands on a chip yoinked my dads iron out of the box (30w with the biggest bloody tip you have ever seen). installed the chip and did the force pal mod in my sisters 7502 psx. put it back together and it all worked first time.
so believe me PSX is a piece of p¦ss
420 Mar 20, 2002, 10:16 PM ack! don't encourage that psibob84 lol most people would fry the hell out of the mobo with a 30 watt
littlejon Mar 22, 2002, 01:08 AM well..
i am going to try to do my own chipping. i have the chip, the iron & instructions, just gotta take the plunge.
i am afraid i am gonna screw up and fry the bugger..
upur0 Mar 23, 2002, 01:44 PM modchips are better, hands down.
i used a plug mod and it was good, i didnt mind swapping discs, but I hated the fact that I could not play games like MGS and Chrono Cross. So I bought a 4 wire mod from kya (i cannot have a stealth mod, i have a 1001), installed it, then finished Metal Gear Solid and all was good.
kgen3001 Mar 23, 2002, 03:19 PM ok every body told me that modchip is better than Psx Change
johnharte Mar 25, 2002, 09:58 AM I've seen a Playstation Chipped before, and seems pretty straight forward, although I know you need a 15w Soldiering Iron..
What I'm wondering is:
Do I buy one? and Where from?
or
As I may only use the Iron this once, do i just pay someone to do it?
in that case where could I get it done near York?
Cheers,
cuchulan Mar 26, 2002, 12:48 PM Gotta agree with the majority.Mod chip wins hands down.Have a look at
twocom.co.uk. Chips are cheap and they have a diagram 4 all psx versions and 4 ps1.I've used them 4 some time and they havn't let me down yet.
Also get the lowest wattage soldering iron that u can get. 15W is good any higher is not recommended. I'd also advise getting the thinnest tinned wire u can get. The wire that comes free with twocoms chips is 2 thick. Especially if u need 2 do the colour correction on the back of the ps1 .
Maplins do a gr8 range of irons and accessories.
If u r just doing it as a 1 off 4 urself then pay someone else as its a hell of a lot cheaper
kgen3001 Mar 26, 2002, 09:00 PM u guys keep them coming because i want to here more about the modchip www.modchip.net or www.liksang.com if any one wants to buy one u can check here

I'm an amateur with the iron, but installed the mod chip with a 30. Worked ok..:)
kgen3001 Apr 09, 2002, 12:48 AM is it true that u can't play games that have 3 disc?
KAB23223 Apr 13, 2002, 10:25 PM um. if u wanna use the x-change for the playstation not ps1 do u have to install the spring, and how easy it to install, and so your saying i cant play games that have 2+ discs?
kgen3001 Apr 14, 2002, 12:32 AM i thinks so
kgen3001 Apr 14, 2002, 12:34 AM u don't have to intall it shows u the information when u order the x change and its easy to work u don't have to open the psx so its easy
king nero Apr 14, 2002, 07:22 AM *) lol psibob anyway
*) w/ a modchip, you can play games up to 300 discs, in case there are any. no seriously, ofcourse you can play 3- and 4-disc games, all a mod does is entering the boot (making the psx think it handles an original disc), so it doesn't matter if you're playing a 2-disc game (like MGS, which is most probably the best game eva on psx, but that was another topic, i think :) )or a three- or 4-disc game (like the FF-series)
psibob84 Apr 14, 2002, 07:59 AM thats not three quarters of a year thats 3 to four years
LOL.
dont know how i got away with it but i did.
jairzinho May 03, 2002, 06:42 PM I just use the boot disc. I could get it modded, but can't be bothered to take my PSOne to be chipped, or to buy a soldering iron and all that stuff to do it myself. Oh, by the way, I didn't really like the spring. I use a bit of blu-tack, kind of sticky putty and stick it where the button is (old type playstation), that way I can open and close the lid and machines always thinks door is closed.....
RagnarOk 18 May 03, 2002, 07:03 PM y cant u play a multiple disc game with a boot disc?
RagnarOk 18 May 08, 2002, 06:49 PM can someone explain why u cant play a game with multiple disc with bootdisc
