Hi! I have been saving all my essays on a memorex cd-r and it was working just fine before. But today when I put in the cd it said that its empty and thers an error. I'm using easy cd creator 4. Is ther anyway I can get my data back? or is it gone 4ever? I know that it's inside this cd. Also before whenever I would save an essay as a .doc I could delet it even if the cd is just cd-r not cd-rewritable, is this suppose to happen?

Mwh... you've burnt a multisession disc, try reading it from your CDR drive, not your cdrom.

Hi S1W! All my other disc that I burnt before works fine only this one doesnt. Other people told me to download programs that recover lost data and stuff but they didn't work :( Ya, I tried reading it from both it still says its empty. I have no clue, idea how this happend. Yesterday this disc was fine. The only thing I didn't try yet is re-installing easy cd creator, but I dont think it will work cuz my other cd's are working fine. So I guess its gone. I guess its not a good idea to save important data on cheap cd-r disc. So I need to your guy's help, what do u recomend is the best or good cd-r disc for backing or saving up important data? I have a cd-rewritable disc but some tell me that cd-r is better, is this true?

thanks for your help.

Try reading on a different drive. The disk may be damaged (scratched) or just dirty.

I'm having a very similar problem. I put several files on a Memorex 650MB CD-RW disc. I used windows explorer to put the files on disc, and when I checked, everything was there - and the capacity/file size of the disc had changed, everthing added up, etc. However, once I eject the cd and then reinsert it and try to read it it shows that nothings there (disc capacity hasn't changed though - so something must have got written there to use up this space). Everything else works, and it seems to be writing normally for other discs, either through directcd, or burning software.
I'm also looking for ideas, or ways to get my data back!

Hey sesquim - I'm having trouble with Memorex CD-RW 650 MB, 74 minute, 4X Multi Speed discs (in green cases). Are these the same ones causing you grief?
My burner is a hp CD-Writer Plus 9310 - haven't had too many problems until now!

Download the evaluation copy of CDRDiag here http://www.cdrom-prod.com/consumer.html . This demo doesn't let you recover files but at least you may be able to determine if the data is still there.
