I installed a newer version of Adaptec Easy CD Creator 5.0 and it screwed up my CDROM and CD Burner drive settings
I can't re-install them when I download drivers; if I try to install from the .inf file it says "install failed". If I try to install it the manual way it says Windows could not find a better driver, but in the hardware manager thing it says the devices aren't working properly with an error code 39. Something about the drivers being corrupted or missing.
My computer is a P4 1.8 GHz running Windows XP
My CD-ROM is an LG CRD-8522B, and my burner is a GCE-8160B from the same company (LG Electronics)
I already uninstalled Easy CD but I still can't fix anything
Can anyone help? It would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

The fix for this usually involves removing the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values from a registry key. See the troubleshooting advice at Removing Adaptec Easy CD Creator in Win XP (http://www.winxpfix.com/winxpfix/page16.htm).

When reading about the fix, pay attention to this explanation of the Code 39:

NOTE: If you are getting a Code 39, it may be that additional third party filter drivers were added to UpperFilters and LowerFilters values in addition to Adaptec filter drivers. In that case, you may try to remove the non-Adaptec filter drivers first, leaving the Easy Creator filters in place to see if the Code 39 goes away. If you still exhibit the error Code 39, 32, or 31 then remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely in the above key.

This situation is also covered at the Roxio site at CDROM and Recorder no longer work after removing software in Windows 2000/XP (http://ask.roxio.com/cgi-bin/roxio_tic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=yE3Jpq5g&p_lva=&p_refno=000505-000000).

It is also covered in Article ID: Q270008 at theMicrosoft Knowledgebase (http://search.support.microsoft.com/). This link does not seem to be working at present.
