dazco Mar 21, 2002, 01:31 AM I recently stopped using labels because i found myself often re-burning audio discs for a few different reasons, and it's just to expensive. But i also stopped because i started thinking about longevity problems they might cause such as adhesives causing discs to no longer be readable, or paper getting old and brittle and flaking off.
What are your thoughts about possible repercussions of using labels? I have had a number of imation audio CD's go bad, and i wonder if this is just the lack of quality in the disc or if the lables may have contributed. Any thoughts are appriciated.
Thanks,-Dale
scousemouse Mar 21, 2002, 07:04 AM i dont use them either because i found that in certain cd players that arnt tray loaded they can get stuck. apparently there is certain printers you can buy to print straight on to the disc itself i dunno. any one have any ideas worth looking into?
83bj60 Mar 23, 2002, 09:36 PM Had no problems whatsoever with CD Stomper labels, although they are not the most opaque and you do need no-logo CDs for best results. Heck I've even applied two and even three labels on top of each other with no problems!
I do not have a slot loading CD player though, but I have not seen any of these labels peel after they were well aplied.
Hoss Mar 24, 2002, 10:17 PM Same here have yet to have any probs with NEato Glossy labels and have several slot loaders. Only thing is if you leave your CDR in the sun the ink does fade very quickly, but of course not a good odea to leave them in the sun in the first place!
I think by far they do more good then harm by protecting the CD's reflective layer and they look good.
Read Neato's FAQ about the glue etc for yourself www.neato.com
dazco Mar 24, 2002, 10:35 PM Sounds good Hoss. But i won't use them for the same reason i've avoided them from the start......they cost from 2 to 3 times as much for one label as i pay for my cd-r's ! At that price i'll stick with a cd-r pen till someone finally realizes theres a market for reasonably priced gloss labels and begins a price war on them. I'm surprized it hasn't happened yet. How much can a gloss label cost to make?!

83bj60 Mar 25, 2002, 07:23 AM I agree totally with you, dazco! The price on labels is just plain ridiculous. This situation has got to change. I've complained numerous times about it to no avail.
Same story about CD sleeves, they are practically as expensive as jewel cases and look how little material they use! And if you try to get the kind you can put in a binder, Whoa! It'll cost you twice or three times the cost of a CD even if the darn sleeve holds CDs on two sides!
It's about time someone complained, Kudos dazco
KremmenUK Mar 25, 2002, 08:54 AM Due to this post I decided to open up my very first audio CDR's that I created from my extensive 45's collection.
These CDR's must now be about 4 years old (when did the HP8100i first come out ?) and the HP labels are still stuck firm and the CDR's played fine in the car, and let's face it, if they play in the car they will play anywhere.
I'm sure I read somewhere that HP and Neato jointly developed the glue that they both use and is designed not to destroy the CDR surface.
I just think that a carefully designed label adds that finishing touch :)
fawlty Mar 25, 2002, 08:24 PM I've used HP, Stomper & Neato and they all seem to work well. I doubt you could peel them off if you tried!
Agreed on the price - a total rip-off. But they look nice!
Pretty annoying too that they can only get 2 per page. 3 per page would cut the cost by 50% but it just won't quite fit on an A4 page. I should think that most printers can handle 'legal' size paper which could accomodate 3 labels.
Hoss Mar 27, 2002, 01:52 AM Well while I agree labels are a bit steep in price, I get 40 Glossy's for $17.50 from buy.com that's only $.50 with ink prolly. Not so bad for a good looking Pro type job that protects the CD as well.
Mijawa Mar 29, 2002, 08:11 AM I use neato matt labels, only problems I find are in car cd players.
They tend to get quite hot and the labels peel and bubble.
cheers
