I use Nero 5.5.7.8 and I can't help feeling that it does not perform as well on my system as the Adaptec Software used to before I installed XP, (I used to have EZ CD Creator 3.x when I had Win 98 installed). I could do disk to disk copying and could also run other apps when I was burning, (caqn't really do on the fly copying now and certainly canot run other apps even though I have quite a beefy system). I have placed the latest Nero ASPI file in the Nero installation folder and I had assumed it was installed correctly. However, when I run the ASPI check utility, I get the following text:
LOG0143: ************************************************** ***************

Do I need to re-install the ASPI layer (using force ASPI perhaps??) to get back the performance that I know my burned is capable of?
I have an Adaptec 29160N SCSI host adapter by the way.

Many thanks in advance for any help you an offer!

Hmm, looks like your ASPI layer has problems. You can use force aspi, but since you are among the lucky few that actually has an Adaptec card installed, you should be able to use the regular adaptec aspi install, from www.adaptec.com
If you for some reason should want to use force aspi, I believe you can get that from www.doom9.net
Updating your aspi layer will not hurt, so go ahead and do it. :)

I installed the Adaptec ASPI layer and removed the Nero Winaspi file from the Nero directory. This caused some problems so I removed the nero ASPI layer altogether. This resulted in me not being able to start Nero. Basically, all the combinations of ASPI files I could try did not improve the performance of Nero. I still get buffer under-runs when copying on the fly. Thanks for the help.... is there anything else I can try??

p.s. How do I remove the Adaptec ASPI layer, it does not seem to do anything for me and I would rather get rid of it

You need the Nero wnaspi32.dll file period. Having ASPI installed in XP should not affect anything, but ForceASPI can remove it

I would guess that your probs lie in your DMA settings, read here for info in XP & enabling that

Thanks for the help. I thought DMA only affected IDE drive performance? I can't see any gains from using the Adaptec ASPI layer so I will continue to just use the Nero one and get rid of the Adaptec one.
Ticks me off that I can't do on the fly copying...... never mind.
