I have a Plextor CD-R 16/10/40 it's 1 year old. I went to put a cd in it the other day and kept getting a device not ready error message. Windows 98 says the device is working properly. I went round and round with the Plextor tech's they realy couldn't help. Told me they could fix for $$$. So I went out and bought a TDK 32/12/40 put it in and got the same message. Took it back to Best Buys the tech guys there says it a driver problem. Can you help me?

I have a CD-Rom on the same IDE Cable and it is working. I bought it after the TDK Drive.

Try uninstalling the Drive in Device Manager and reboot.
Also check all yur cables and power connections.
Is the drive being recognized at bootup? (watch the screen closely in DOS)
Have you installed any new burnware recently?

And moving to the CDRW forum btw

Hoss I've tried uninstalling it from the device mananger a number of times. I've switched power cables and Ide conectors. The ide cable that will run the CD-Rom won't run the CD-R's Plextor or TDK. Both drives are recognized on Boot. Windows says the drive is working properly. It's not. The only program that was installed before it wouldn't work was a game called Command and Conquer Red Alert 2
