Okay, I've got another question now that I got that burning problem fixed. When using CD-Rs, if I burn a tiny bit to it (say to check and see if the writer is working okay) can I go back and add to that disc or am I better off leaving it alone and starting a new one with all my data on it? Thanks ahead of time for all your help!!!!:D

You can multi-session the disc. On the first burn , depending on what software you are using, either choose 'start multi-session disc' or disable 'close disc' or 'finalise disc'.
Then for each session after that choose 'continue multi-session' or a normal burn still with 'finalise' or 'close' disabled.
Each session uses up some space as lead in , lead out tracks and a TOC - Table of Contents are written to the disc.
Some CDROMs can't read multi-session discs and some can't read 'open' (unfinalised) discs, although this shouldn't be a problem with anything faster (more modern) than an 8x.
Multi-sessioning is no good if you are making audio CDRs as most CD players only recognise a single session , generally the last one.
Or to test the burner use a CDRW disc, then you can erase it once the test has finished.
