Norton for A/V, but useless for trojans. (As is most A/V software)

The Cleaner by http://www.moosoft.com/ for trojans.

AVG it's free, updated regularly and does its job effectively.

At one point I was receiving something like 100 infected emails a week and AVG stopped them.

Sometime ago NAV used to connect to the internet to update and forget to close the port behind itself, leaving your comp wide open to attack. I don't know if this is still the case.

It's also worth installing Zonealarm, not only for the firewall protection but because any files with a dangerous extension are quarantined and you have to give explicit permision before running them.
