ive read that Liteon makes drives for TDK and Plextor
does this mean that the TDK 24x, Plextor 24x and the Liteon 24x are the same drive or does it mean that Liteon just manufactres the drives for those companies?
Thnks for any replies

Lite-on do not make Plextor drives. Plextor uses Burnproof from Sanyo. Lite-on uses smart burn. TDK I do not know about, check and see if it supports SafeBurn or not.
TDK have never made their own drives, to my knowledge.

Last I knew TDK used Sanyo drives/mechanisms
Lite-On makes Lite-On but many Co's market them under their own label...we call this rebadging.
If it says SmartBurn on the box it's a Lite-On drive
